As a way to encourage children to become more physically active, Sparrow Hospital and Kohl's Department Store partner every year to offer the Kohl's Feelin' Good Mileage Club (FGMC). Last year, more than 38,000 mid-Michigan children walked their way to better health while earning fun prizes along the way. Together, they walked 28,862 miles!
This voluntary program, which will run from April 12, 2010 - June 4, 2010 is designed to offer students in grades K-6 the opportunity to walk/run during designated recess or lunch periods. Children earn a Toe Token (brightly colored plastic foot) for every 5 miles logged and all students completing 20 miles during the 8-week program will earn a specially designed water bottle.
Thanks to Kohl's Department Store and Sparrow Hospital, this program is available to your school at absolutely no cost. The program is available to K-6 schools in Clinton, Eaton, Gratiot, Ingham, Ionia, Livingston, Montcalm and Shiawassee counties, but will be limited to the first 150 schools submitting a signed contract.
To enroll your school, the following steps must be completed:
Step 1 - Review the Program Expectations. If you meet the criteria, and are willing to follow these expectations, complete and return the School Contract to our office. The deadline for submitting a contract is Friday, February 19, 2010.
Step 2 - The FGMC Coordinator and/or Principal (NOT a designee) must attend a 30-minute orientation meeting. You will receive program instructions and supplies at this meeting.
